How to add Mods to a Modpack

/

Have you ever played a modpack, and truly felt that it was missing a certain mod? This tutorial is for you! Today as an example I’ll be adding FTB Utilities, a very helpful mod for servers to Regrowth, a 1.7.10 pack. I will be doing this on Curseforge, but the last few steps are the same on any pack launcher.

Step 1:

Select your mods
When picking mods, you should consider three things.
1) Is this mod on the correct Minecraft Version?
2) Does this mod have any dependencies?
3) Does this mod conflict with the pack?

Many people like to add Optifine when playing through a pack, but this isn’t advised as Optifine causes a lot of rendering issues, and can even break certain packs.
I recommend installing all mods from Curseforge as they are usually up to date, and will let you know if other dependencies are required. The mod I’m adding does come with a dependency, so I made sure to download FTBLib as well. I made sure both of them were for Minecraft 1.7.10. In the meantime, keep them on your desktop or in a folder so you don’t lose them.

For Curseforge Users:

1) Locate the pack you want to play, and right click it in the menu.

2) Click “Open Folder”

3) From there, your file explorer should open with the modpack.
4) Go to /mods and toss your mods in there. If you plan to add more mods later, it wouldn’t hurt to bookmark the folder.

5) You should be able to launch the pack successfully and have the new mods.

Here you can see that FTB Utilities has successfully been added, as I can now claim chunks and make teams. Hooray!

For FTB Launcher Users:

For this example I’m going to add WorldEdit to FTB Revelation. The process is quite similar to Curseforge.
1) Locate the pack you want to play, and click the icon, not “play”!
2) From there, click “settings”
3) Finally, locate the “open folder” button. This will open the directory, and from here the steps are the same between Curseforge, FTB Launcher, and any pack.

4) Go to /mods and toss your mods in there.
5) You should be able to launch the pack successfully and have the new mods.

Conclusion and Warnings

Typically, a modpack developer will intentionally leave out certain mods for progression, like not having OreExcavator or a minimap mod like Journeymap. You should only add mods at your own discretion!
